Immune System Boosting Foods

Germs and viruses are always around for people to pick up. To lower your risk of infection, wash your hands often, use hand sanitizers, keep your surroundings clean, get a flu shot and do not sharing drinks. Good hygiene isn’t the only way to keep away sickness.  If you focus on building a better immune system in your diet, your body will be on guard to fight off any sickness that comes its way.

Particular foods are known to keep your immune system strong. Your daily diet should be well rounded.  Do yourself and immune system a favor by adding the following foods into your diet daily.

Oysters – Oysters contain zinc, which has virus-fighting power to it. Zinc helps activate white blood cells. It also helps with healing wounds. Oysters also contain selenium, which helps white blood cells produce cytokines (proteins) that clear viruses out of the body.

Spinach – Spinach, which is full of folate, which helps the body make new cells and repair DNA.

Yogurt – Yogurt comes with probiotics (live, active cultures) which are healthy bacteria that keep the gut and intestines free from the attack of  germs .

Tea – Whether you prefer green, white, or black, tea is filled with polyphenols and flavonoids, which are known to fight off diseases. They are antioxidants that target cell-damaging free radicals and destroy them.

Sweet potatoes and carrots – These vegetables contain beta-carotene, which turns into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A gets rid of free radicals in the body and gives a boost to the immune system.

Broccoli – Broccoli is filled with vitamins A and C, along with antioxidants like glutathione, which all protect the body.

Citrus fruits – Grapefruit, oranges, lemons, limes, clementines, and tangerines are loaded with vitamin C, which fight infections by increasing the production of white blood cells in the body.

Other immunity-boosting foods: Red bell peppers, mushrooms, garlic, ginger, almonds, poultry, kiwi, shellfish, and  turmeric.

Brilliant New Technology from Nova Oculus Partners

Nova Oculus Partners was founded in 2014 with a brilliant new technology that will help those with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The goal of Nova Oculus is to manufacture and lease the machine to doctors and eye care professionals so that they can treat their patients suffering from AMD.

Nova Oculus Partners Discover a Method to Treat Age-Related Macular Degeneration

A deterioration of the central vision of a patient’s eye is the cause for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Most affected are over the age of 60 years old. The good news is that Nova Oculus Partners have created a specific technology that will treat AMD.

For those who suffer with AMD, their eyes form a “black cloud” in the central vision. This makes it hard to take care of everyday tasks such as reading, watching television, working on a computer, driving a car, and texting on a phone. This breakdown of the macular in the retina can really affect a person’s quality of life. The patient’s vision progressively deteriorates over time. Colors and contrasts in objects are impacted.

The scientists behind the technology that Nova Oculus Partners has developed are a dedicated team of individuals who seek to help those regain their vision. The photoreceptors in the macula need to be healthier. This is done by improving the metabolism of the cells in the eye. During the one-hour procedure, a low level of electric current is applied to the eye. A special designed eye goggle is used to deliver the current. Nova Oculus Partners have developed and plan to manufacture a medical device to treat age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Optometrists and other medical professionals will be able to lease the device so they can treat their patients who suffer from AMD.

Over 10 million people in the United States have a form of age-related macular degeneration, according to the National Eye Institute. The Institute also indicated that more than 1 in 10 people over 70 yrs. old has some vision loss due to AMD. Facts About Hypothyroidism

If you’re struggling to lose weight or have trouble sleeping,  you could have an underlying condition: an underactive thyroid, also known as hypothyroidism.

In a survey, between 0.1-2 percent of the U.S. population have hypothyroidism.  Some data says up to 12% of people will develop a thyroid condition in their life. Around 20 million Americans have some form of a thyroid disease.  With woman, it’s even more common to have a thyroid problem- five to eight times more likely.

Below, I will discuss some basics about hypothyroidism. Not everyone experiences the same thing from this thyroid disease. It’s best to talk to your doctor about your concerns to properly diagnose your issues.

When a person has hypothyroidism, his or her body doesn’t produce enough of thyroxine. This is a chemical produced by the thyroid gland, and it regulates cellular metabolism.  Right now in the United States, one common cause of this disorder is inflammation of the thyroid gland. A chronic attack of the thyroid cells by the immune system leaves a large number of cells in the thyroid damaged or even dead and incapable of producing sufficient active hormone.

Primary hypothyroidism is when there is an insufficient amount of thyroxine by the thyroid gland.  Most cases of hypothyroidism are primar. Secondary hypothyroidism is the result of a pituitary disorder.

Other causes of hypothyroidism are: iodine deficiency, thyroid surgery, radiation therapy, and medications like lithium.

This disorder presents itself in a variety of different ways in people ranging from little to no symptoms to severe cases that lead to comas and organ failure. Symptoms develop slowly over many years. If hypothyroidism isn’t untreated, symptoms can worsen. Physical changes that can occur include having a puffy face, thinning eyebrows, hoarseness, thickened skin, and trouble with tasting and smelling and slow reflexes.

Common symptoms include: fatigue, memory problems, hair loss, infertility, depression, constipation, high cholesterol, weight gain, dry hair, infertility, changes in the menstrual cycle, dry hair, weakness, and dry skin.

Doctors test the blood for the thyroid function and the stimulation hormone for thyroid to see if a person has hypothyroidism. Metabolism, which is the main function of the thyroid hormone, can be measured by quantifying the amount of expired carbon dioxide a person produces over time.  Dr. Kordonowy uses a machine called the Metabolic ReeVue to measure this. The treatment required is taking oral thyroid hormone replacement. The usual treatment includes daily use of the synthetic thyroid hormone levothyroxine.

For most people, treatment successfully relieves this disorder’s systems.  Oral medication restores hormone levels to reverse symptoms of hypothyroidism. Blood testing is required to determine the correct dose for each individual patient.  Patients start to notice differences after one to two weeks . Treatment is usually lifelong.
